Icon of the Seas: The World’s Biggest Cruise Ship is ready

The world’s biggest cruise ship, Icon of the Seas, is almost ready to set sail. The Royal Caribbean International ship is currently undergoing sea trials in the Baltic Sea and is expected to begin its maiden voyage in January 2024.

Icon of the Seas is a massive vessel, measuring 365 meters long and weighing 250,800 tonnes. It can accommodate up to 5,610 passengers and 2,350 crew members. The ship features a wide range of amenities, including 28 different types of accommodation, 19 restaurants and bars, a casino, a spa, and a state-of-the-art fitness centre.

About the World’s Biggest Cruise Ship

The massive ship can hold up to 5,610 passengers and 2,350 crew members comfortably. The boat’s piece de resistance will be the world’s largest waterpark at sea. Named Category 6, it’ll feature six record-breaking water slides, but guests who want a more leisurely experience can also relax in the boat’s seven pools and nine whirlpools.

The vessel is on track to join the Royal Caribbean fleet on October 26, ahead of its 2024 debut. We are positioning it as the ultimate family vacation and when you step back and look at all the energy and time that has gone into creating this ship it is mind-blowing.

What can you do aboard the largest cruise ship in the world?

One of the most striking features of the Icon of the Seas is its infinity pool, which is located on the top deck. The pool offers stunning views of the ocean and is the perfect place to relax and soak up the sun.

Another highlight of Icon of the Seas is its entertainment options. The ship features a Broadway-style theatre, a comedy club, a laser tag arena, and a ropes course. There are also several water slides, including the tallest slide at sea.

Launch Video of Icon of the Seas

During her first set of sea trials, Icon of the Seas traveled hundreds of miles, during which the main engines, hull, brake systems, steering, noise, and vibration levels were all tested. Everything was done on time as outlined in the schedule, despite her departure being delayed due to wind conditions.

Perfect Home Base

The ship caters to every individual, right from young families to adult-only spaces such as Royal Caribbean International’s first duelling pianos bar. The cruise promises 40 ways to dine and entertain, most of which are included in the ticket fare.

There are 28 different types of accommodations – with more categories for families, more layouts with ocean views and more space for group travellers. The cruise line says it’s the longest timeframe it’s ever dedicated to “designing the perfect home base.”

As a part of clean energy move, the ship is powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and fuel cell technology.

Some 2,600 workers have been grafting on Icon of the Seas each day. For the sea trials, hundreds of specialists were on board to assess performance over four days.

Royal Caribbean says a second set of sea trials is scheduled for later in 2023.

Record-breaking sales

Although we do not have the exact numbers yet, but as per Bayley, this is the best-performing new product launch they have ever had.

Sail Timing and Destinations

Icon of the Seas will sail seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean vacations from Miami all year round. Every sailing will include a visit to Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s award-winning private island destination, as well as its new expansion, Hideaway Beach.

Who crowned the Biggest Cruise title earlier?

It’s none other than Royal Carribean’s fleet itself. The current title holder of the world’s largest cruise ship is another vessel in the Royal Caribbean fleet, Wonder of the Seas, which made its inaugural voyage just last year and is a slightly teensier 1,188 feet in length, with a mere 18 decks to explore.

All things considered, Icon of the Seas is sure to be a popular cruise ship and is sure to attract passengers from all over the world. The ship’s size and amenities make it a truly unique vacation experience.

Price for Icon of the Seas

Royal Caribbean plans for Icon of the Seas to sail all year, so prices vary. But some start at about $1,700 per person. For more details, have a look at their own website here.
