- 6% Discount on the Base Fare
We have received multiple queries from students regarding discrepancy in Student fare by the airline. It has often been complained that the airline is scamming and is not giving the actual discount as it’s claiming. This is not always the case.
It’s important to understand the meaning of Base Fare.
Base Fare = Fare the airline will receive.
Normal Fare = Base Fare + GST + Airport Charges
For example, if the fare from New Delhi to Mumbai is Rs. 5,000 and the breakup is as follows –
Base Fare – Rs. 4000
GST – 200
Airport Charges – 800
Then, the discount will be applicable on Rs. 4,000. So, the final fare for Students will be Rs. 4,748.
Applicability for Indigo Student Discount
- Bookings made 7 days in Advance
- Age – 12 years or above
- Valid Student ID Card to be Furnished at the airport
Can I furnish any other document at the airport apart from ID Card?
Eligible students booking IndiGo flights under the Scheme shall be required to furnish his/ her valid school/ university ID card at the time of check-in at the airport. In case the student fails to furnish his/ her ID Card, the benefits will not be extended to the customer and the booking will be deemed cancelled. The passenger will have to book his new ticket instantly to be eligible to travel.
Indigo states that no other document apart from ID card is allowed. Any other document such as the first page of a diary, a confirmation on letterhead, Board Certificate etc. is not considered a valid document.
Question – I was earlier planning to travel, but now my plan is cancelled. Can my brother, also a student travel on that ticket?
No. Tickets booked under the Scheme are non-transferable. Name change is strictly not allowed in India.

Search for a flight and select “Student”
Select Discounted Fare
On the search result page, select Student Fare.
Add passenger details
On the passenger details’ page, enter the student’s required details and proceed to complete the booking.
