In total, out of 60 airlines, just 30 offer student fares.
The fare rules of every airline differ. The terms and conditions are different for every airline and every journey. Though, the constant factor is, most of them require you to book it directly from their own website, but some of them give you the flexibility of booking via travel agents.
Benefits of Student Fares
Student fares offer a lot of benefits to domestic and international travellers. In general, they offer benefits in terms of baggage or Discounts or both.
General Benefits for Students –
- 10kg Extra Baggage Allowance
- 5-20% Student Discount
- Extra Piece of Luggage
All of the above is dependent upon the sector of travel and the airline and is not standard. This keeps changing depending upon the availability of seat on the flight. Every flight has a specific number of special fares (student fare), and may run out of the same if the load is high.
Load = Number of travellers on the flights / Seats Booked
How to get Student Fare Benefits?
Some airlines allow you to book a normal ticket, and just show an ID card to get the student benefits, whereas some specifically need you to book a student fare to get the same benefits.
For example, in Virgin Atlantic, you can book a normal ticket and when you arrive at the airport, just show your Student visa or ID Card, and get the third checkin luggage free of cost. But, in Indigo, you are required to book a student fare to get that 10kg extra baggage allowance with you.
Should I trust agents when it comes to booking Student Fares?
Why Not? Agents are the most appropriate medium of helping you out in terms of need. Especially in international flights. In international journeys, you may need to get some immediate/urgent guidance on changing flights, or an assistance in terms of visa or anything in general. Airline websites are usually unclear on their policies of documentation and terms which are not mentioned in fine print.
Students often face the brunt at the airport, because they have not read the terms and conditions of the airline well in advance. Airlines impose huge penalties in such cases, some requiring you to cancel the previous ticket and book a new one at the time of bag drop.
What are the rules for every airline in terms of student fares?
In this dynamic environment, the terms and conditions for every airline keep changing. One needs to be updated either through their website or through an agent who keeps a track of all this.
Or it’s as simple as keep following us. We will be updating about every airline and their respective student offers along with its validity, which will help students make the best out of the available offers.
Furthermore, sometimes student fares are more expensive than regular fares. If you are someone who is just exploring here, and would like the cheapest fares possible, download our app on Play Store. Just search for the Ghumo Phiro app.
