Visitor forced to travel in Vande Bharat as automatic doors shut

He boarded the train in Rajamahendravaram to photograph the new train; railway officials let him depart the train after counselling and without charging him a fine.

A passenger, who had boarded the Vande Bharat Express without a ticket in Rajamahendravaram to click a few pictures of the new train, could not get down in time as the automatic doors closed, and was forced to travel up to Vijayawada.

However, after giving him advice, the railroad employees released the traveller.

A day following the train’s January 15 inauguration, on Monday, the catastrophe occurred.

The Traveling Ticket Examiner (TTE) and other employees briefed the passenger on the train’s features while keeping the passenger’s safety in mind.

The officials advised against visitors and ticketless passengers getting on the train since it could cause mishaps.

The traveller was on the Chair Car. The doors automatically shut after the allotted period. When he contacted the TTE and other staff members to ask for assistance, they said they couldn’t because the doors were automatic and would open again in the subsequent station.

The passenger was forced to go up to Vijayawada because the train had already passed the Rajamahendravaram station by the time the railway officials onboard the train alerted the guard and the loco pilot.

Safety is given top attention.
The safety of passengers on railroad property and aboard moving trains, according to Vijayawada Divisional Railway Manager Shivendra Mohan, is given priority.

The DRM stated that the employees had been told not to cause panic in either ticketless or general ticketed passengers who were travelling in reserved or air-conditioned compartments.

Passengers who travel without a valid ticket or pass may be arrested under Section 137 of the Indian Railways Act, 1989. Section 138 allows for the collection of excess fees and fares for travel without a pass or over the permitted distance.

“In this particular case, the passenger can be fined for travelling from Visakhapatnam to Secunderabad. We request the people not to enter the railway stations an board trains without ticket,” a railway officer said.

“Many people are visiting the railway stations to have a look at the Vande Bharat Express. We request them not to board the train. Public announcements will be made in all the trains in this regard,’ a Railway Protection Force (RPF) official told The Hindu on Tuesday.
